As it seems the 5G network is only a matter of a few years now. The network and tech companies involved in the Telecom Business are really busy in developing the required infrastructures.
The modem is the integral part of a mobile phone that establishes the connection between the phone and the cellular network. Back in 2016 the first 5G capable mobile modem, the X50 was announced by Qualcomm within the expected release date of 2018. This modem was said to be capable of delivering speeds up to 5 Gbps.
Today Qualcomm has released an official statement announcing the first successful test of the X50 modem. The test was conducted in the company’s San Diego laboratory. The modem is reported to achieve “gigabit download speeds” using several 100MHz 5G carriers. A reference design phone, with X50 inside the hood, will be released by Qualcomm as well. This phone, exclusively for the mobile phone manufacturing companies, will help them to start their work on the 5G compatible phones.
According to Qualcomm, the X50 modem will be released with the first wave of 5G compatible phones in the first half of 2019. Samsung Galaxy S10 is reported to be among the very first few phones boasting of this new technology.
