A subsidiary firm of Amazon.com, Twitch has introduced a controversial feature that offers viewers to pay a penny to the Twitch streaming platform to “boost” their favorite streamer on the forum.
Viewers aren’t in a jovial mood at the keystone of this feature, immensely affecting the site. It’s not the first time Twitch has brought a boost feature to the platform; they have already introduced it to viewers. But this time, it will be tested using real money instead of Channel Points to let viewers promote their favorite streamers.
The boost feature was tested last December as an integrated Community Challenge for streamers. This offers viewers to use their channel points to push their favorite streamers to make them highly recommended to another Twitch user. Viewers can earn channel points by watching live streams. The more they tend more they get channel points. According to journalist Zach Bussey, this was their actual plan for the feature. “Initially they had tested with channel points but they wanted to make real money by boost feature,” he added.
Twitch has introduced numerous new features that have affected both creators and viewers for the past few months. Lower sub-prices for viewers in other countries and adding phone number verification options to combat the ongoing hate-raid issues are new bewildering features that created antipathy towards Twitch.
While speaking with VGN product manager Jacob Rosok stated, “Twitch will be trialling the new feature with a select number of Twitch streamers.” He added, “What we’re doing with Boosts feature is giving viewers the ability to buy super high visibility promotions for their favourite creators, and these types of placements come with a cost,” Jacob Rook said.
He further added, “It’s no secret that viewers are here to support their creators, and we think that paying to help a creator grow their community will be worthwhile for their supporters.”
The new Boost feature works in a minor offbeat mode as viewers can only buy the boost during 10 minutes; betwixt the time gap, viewers will be able to buy as many Boosts as they want.
With no dearth, Twitch has been adding new features to its site without considering the user’s value; instead, they are coercing the users to sustain the platform. Moreover, the new features have been affecting the critical thing of the Twitch platform.
