The California-based American communications company, Twitter, has introduced a new feature called the Twitter Edit button. It is allegedly reported that the push to introduce this new feature had come from Tesla’s Elon Musk, now Twitter’s largest shareholder, to help with correcting tweets. This is basically an effort to eradicate or rather try to diminish the potentially abusive, harmful, or offensive tweets.

The company confirmed that they should begin testing with select users in the upcoming months. It shall test the edit button with its Twitter Blue premium subscribers before rolling it to the rest of the world. Tests can help Twitter determine the best way to implement an edit button that minimizes the negative impact on the user experience. Questions such as how long will users have to edit a tweet, how many times can the tweets be edited, and how will other users know when a tweet has been edited have become speculation.

The apps research and reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong revealed the first glimpse of the feature on Tuesday. She posted a video showing how to edit a tweet. To edit the post, the user must press the “Edit Tweet” button in the drop-down context menu. The current version, which is under development, can reupload media such as images, videos, GIFs, and others. She further iterated that “An inefficient use of the bandwidth and media processing power plus it turns my video into an image (mishandling media type).” (Source: Twitter)

Furthermore, Twitter is also testing a like/dislike feature which shall now let the user’s test stats, as in the likes, comments, and RTs in the notifications section itself, and enables one to engage with the tweets from there only.

These changes can bring about significant changes in the social media handle. Now, it is to be observed how much positivity can bring about in the world of negativity and cancel culture.
