On June 24th, IT House reported that the global market share of Microsoft Edge had exceeded 10%, suggesting that more users are engaging with this modern browser. Microsoft stated that the Edge is “the best browser for gamers” and revealed some gaming-friendly features.
First and foremost, Microsoft is adding a new home page solely dedicated to gaming. This shall include news, live and tournament highlights, guides, and many more. Users also can see Xbox-related activities – if a user is signed in with an Xbox account, they shall be able to view content related to the games that the user had recently played. In fact, if the users have an Xbox Game Press Ultimate subscription, they can directly launch the game in the browser. This new home page shall be accessible as a Microsoft Edge home page tab.
The company introduced the Clarity Boost feature in Edge Canary in November 2021. This feature is finally coming to the stable channel. It will provide users with better, sharper quality, indicating that the users will be able to view graphics through Xbox Cloud Gaming multi-screen detail. This technique uses client-side scaling. It can be enabled by clicking the three-dot icon in the upper left corner of the game.
Microsoft is said to be introducing a new configuration in Productivity Mode, which shall minimize the use of browser resources when users play PC games. After exiting the game, resource usage will return to normal levels. Users can access it through performance settings in Edge.
Last but not least, Microsoft officially announced the Edge Game Centre, which shall include casual games. This game menu will be integrated directly into the Edge more options menu, giving users instant access to classic games such as Microsoft Solitaire, Jewel, Mahjong, and others. The Bill Gates-owned company has been testing this hub since December 2021.
