In a bid to broaden its self-driving technology, the Chinese multinational technology company, Xiaomi has revealed today that it has applied for the registration of multiple “Xiaomi Autopilot” and “XIAOMI PILOT” trademarks application rights.
The trademark application relates to transportation tools, scientific instruments, mechanical equipment, and advertising sales, among others, as they are still under review. As per reports, Xiaomi’s first self-driving technology model is expected to be officially rolled out in mass production by 2024.
Earlier this month, the firm shared a picture of a vehicle with the “Xiaomi Autonomous Driving Test” on the body. The image reveals that the vehicle roof is equipped with lidar. In response to the speculating image, a representative of the firm claimed: “This is our test of self-driving technology, not our car.”
Recall that Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun announced at the Xiaomi spring new product launch conference in March 2021 that Xiaomi had officially entered the smart electric vehicle industry. Xiaomi Automobile Co., Ltd. was officially established in September 2021 with a registered capital of 10 billion yuan.
Then, Zhimi Technology, an ecological chain company controlled by Xiaomi, ended up building cars in December 2021. Heretofore, Xiaomi Auto’s car manufacturing base in Yizhuang New Town, Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone had begun construction back in April 2022.
Accordingly, when it comes to autonomous driving, Xiaomi Group has successively invested in autonomous driving companies Zongmu Technology, Hesai Technology, and Ai Parking, and later acquired Shandong Technology, allowing Xiaomi Group to amass a large number of autonomous driving field foundations.
The firm currently holds patents for image processing methods and devices, vehicles, readable storage mediums, automatic overtaking methods, devices, vehicles, storage mediums, and chips. Xiaomi stated in its financial report when it announced its full-year results in March of this year that the current progress of car manufacturing has exceeded expectations.
Simultaneously, Xiaomi’s automotive business research and development team has surpassed 1,000 people, and the company plans to continue expanding research and development in key areas such as autonomous driving and smart cockpits in the future.
