LG said in 2017 that it wants to cover the mobile payments space and came up with LG Pay app for its G6 in June. Today, the company released (accidentally?) a new LG Wallet app on Google Play Store, which is confusing for the users.

To start with the name, the app goes by ‘LG Wallet’ in the listing and in-app header. The boot animation, app icon, and FAB display the name ‘LG Pay.’ Now, this is fine if it’s taken as the brand’s approach to fuel user engagement via wordplay. But the app is not working anyway!

The app listing says that it is compatible with LG G7 and the phone is yet to be released. In fact, reports state that the next phone release of the company is not going to be called G7. Although, experts believe that the brand will want to implement as per the app listing!

There are a few non-LG smartphones that the app is set to be working in: Nexus 6, Nextbit Robin, OG Pixel XL, and a few OnePlus devices., the app was tested and the results were not positive. In the phones LG V30 and Pixel XL phones, the app gets launched, requests permissions, and even plays a Korean intro video, but then freezes!

Well, it is more likely that the app will be compatible with G7, and there’s no info on how long we have to wait for that. Furthermore, obvious grammar errors and dead links in the app description, alongside the aforementioned name confusion, scream out the possibility that the app was released ‘accidentally’. Even, experts add that the Korean intro video displays a text that probably means it is not meant for the market just yet!

Interested users can give it a shot by downloading the LG Wallet app on their devices via Play Store and let us know in comments about issues. We do hope the company comes up with some clarity on this soon enough, and are keeping the tab to provide next update on this!
