Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. has recently published its patent for vehicle charging equipment for electric vehicles and systems and methods for charging electric vehicles. As per the patent application, the current electric vehicle charging technology can be divided further into three types – onboard charging, off-board charging (OBC), and wireless charging (WC).
The patent by Huawei also provides a solution to the problem of
low integration of traditional wireless charging and traditional onboard charging.
In a recent report, it has been mentioned that the Huawei extract suggests that the patent is an onboard charging device for electric vehicles, and the onboard charging device exhibits high power density at a considerably reduced cost. The extract consists of the below-mentioned contents for the purpose of on-board charging equipment:
● Mains input, including power factor correction (PFC) converter
● Mains side DC/AC converter
● Transformer with mains side coil and battery side coil.
● Battery side AC/DC converter
● Battery connector
● One or more bypass switches for electrically connecting the mains side converter to the battery side converter when closed.
In the setup, the transformer is being used for magnetic coupling to the TX pad of an external wireless power transmitter (WPT) so that the side of the main could and the battery side coil receives power. When the bypass switch is turned off and the transformer is magnetically adjoined to the WPT, power is delivered to the battery connector through the battery side
converter and the utility side converter.
