Apple has always been rigid in terms of providing support for third-party accessories. However, the latest rumors suggest that this is going to change once and for all. A rumor from China stated that Apple would provide support for 15W wireless fast charging even when the third-party charger is not certified by MagSafe for the iPhone 15 series.
As per the Weibo post regarding the same, the iPhone 15 series will have the ability to open 15W wireless magnetic charging using non-MFM certified charger. The non-certified ones are pretty affordable compared to the certified ones. To recall, the MagSafe magnetic wireless charger by Apple or any third-party magnetic charger with MFM certification is supposed to achieve 15W wireless fast charging on the iPhone 12, iPhone 13, and iPhone 14.
The rumor has not been confirmed by any official source until now. Nonetheless, it makes sense because, pretty recently, Apple made a contribution towards a new version of the Qi open standard that is identical to MagSafe in terms of working. All the devices that will work on Qi2 in the future will be using the same magnetic technology that is being used in MagSafe devices developed for iPhone 12 and above.
According to the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), the magnetic power profile in Qi2 will keep a check on the compatibility of smartphones and other battery-backed smartphone products with chargers for better energy efficiency and faster charging speed.
Rumors also suggest that the iPhone 15 variants will support USB Type-C accessories that will carry the Made for iPhone (MFi) certification. Now, this could be used as a medium to limit all the features being offered by Apple, including high-speed data transfers.
