Following Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella’s announcement that both Sam Altman and Greg Brockman will be joining to lead Microsoft’s new advanced AI research team, tech mogul Elon Musk has chimed in on the development, suggesting that the OpenAI team should adopt Microsoft Teams over Google Meet. This unexpected comment surfaced in response to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella’s post on X (formerly Twitter).

“We remain committed to our partnership with OpenAI and have confidence in our product roadmap, our ability to continue to innovate with everything we announced at Microsoft Ignite, and in continuing to support our customers and partners. We look forward to getting to know Emmett Shear and OAI’s new leadership team and working with them. And we’re extremely excited to share the news that Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, together with colleagues, will be joining Microsoft to lead a new advanced AI research team. We look forward to moving quickly to provide them with the resources needed for their success, said Microsoft CEO.”

Recall that OpenAI’s board declared on Friday that it no longer has confidence in its CEO’s ability to continue leading the firm, which resulted in Altman’s dismissal from the company. Sam Altman and Greg Brockman will both be joining to head Microsoft’s new advanced AI research division, the company CEO Satya Nadella revealed after a weekend of talks to perhaps lure Altman back to OpenAI.

Additionally, Nadella stated that the software giant is still dedicated to the startup. His company has spent over $10 billion on OpenAI and now has over 50% of the company. The startup, which is widely regarded as winning the current AI race, has Altman as its public face. In less than a year, the company has also taken on the role of kingmaker for thousands of other startups that are developing on top of OpenAI’s products.

However, Elon Musk, known for his candid and outspoken nature, did not hesitate to share his thoughts on the platform. In response to Satya Nadella’s announcement, Musk suggested that the OpenAI team, now under new leadership, should utilize Microsoft Teams for their communication needs, diverting from the widely used Google Meet. Musk’s unconventional recommendation adds a layer of intrigue to the ongoing narrative surrounding OpenAI’s restructuring.

Musk’s endorsement of Microsoft Teams raises questions about the potential impact of this choice on collaborative efforts within the AI research community. In your own opinion, what did you think about Musk’s endorsement of Teams for Microsoft’s AI teams?
