Uber Introduces More Safety Rules as Appeal After TFL Banned Operations in London

Uber has reported on Friday that they will be incorporating a few changes to ensure safe travel for passengers and drivers alike in the United Kingdom, as an Uber appeal to overturn TfL (Transport for London) ban, which stopped their operations in London last year, which proved to be a great blow to the company.

These changes will include reports of serious incidents to the police and account for licensing details to their users in the UK as a part of their safety measures. TfL had introduced its own safety rules for drivers and users of the app, as opposed to Uber regulations that would include working hour limits for private hire vehicle drivers and the sharing of data with the government.

Last year, TfL moved to ban Uber from operating in London, Britain’s capital, and it proved to be a huge loss for the firm and invited a subsequent appeal for the decision from Uber. They will, as a remedy, would introduce new features for drivers, including sharing their locations with someone they know and an option to go “offline” for 6 hours after a journey of 10 hours.

We’re determined to change the way we do business, so we’ll carry on listening and plan to make other improvements over the coming months – Tom Elvidge, General manager of Uber U.K

As TfL decided to take away Uber’s license, they have stated that the major issue was with the latter’s approach to reporting criminal offenses of great seriousness and importance.
