Mark Cerny who is the designer of the PS5, finally lifted the veil on the PlayStation 5 Pro in a technical presentation. This new version is being considered the most equipped version of the console released in 2020. The existence of this device has finally been confirmed after being a target of numerous leaks from last year.
The PS5 Pro is an update that has been created solely with a focus on the console’s performance in games. It is still designed on the basis of AMD architecture, but brought up to date, with an emphasis on raw graphics power. It also has the capability of receiving support for Wi-Fi 7. The main agenda is to provide a frequency of 60 images per second even in Fidelity mode, to benefit from 4K image quality without being stuck at 30 images per second.
Sony has prioritized the graphics with a GPU which almost doubles its number of Compute Units (+67%) for an announced rendering 45 Percent faster. The brand new GPU enables the PS5 Pro to provide better performance, better stability in games, and above all almost tripled performance on the ray tracing part. Games like The Last of Us: Part II or Horizon Forbidden West, for example, benefit from the power of the PS5 Pro with volumetric effects, but also even more precise intricate details.
The new features that are incorporated in the new PS5 are a technical sheet that strengthens its game with a much more powerful GPU part, faster memory, more efficient ray tracing, and the new upscaling technology, PSSR.
PSSR is basically an upscaling and image reconstruction algorithm that can level up the performance of compatible PS5 games. The console renders graphics in low definition organically so with the use of the PSSR algorithm, performance is greatly enhanced. The PS5 Pro will be available for purchase from November 7, 2024, for 799 euros.
The console has 2 TB of storage, but no disc reader, which has to be bought separately. The price is therefore set at a higher standard for a console that targets dematerialized gaming. Therefore, it does bring about an array of questions that lead to the sustainability of the new release.
