Facebook Stands Beside Nepal Quake Survivors; Collects Donations From Users

Facebook on Monday rolled out the donation button to get contributions from users to donate to the International Medical Corps, which is working in Nepal to help the victims. Collected money matched up to $2 million will be donated to the locals in the victimized area for immediate and ongoing relief.

The non-profit organization’s emergency response teams are operating mobile medical units to deliver critically needed medical care and medicines in the earthquake-affected area.

Through the Facebook Donate feature, a banner message placed over News Feed users will be able to donate directly to IMC to support their relief efforts on the ground.

Facebook Safety Check

The social network also launched Safety Check on Saturday in Nepal, Bangladesh, India, and Bhutan, a feature through which users informed their friends and families that they were safe.

A news release published by Facebook says, till now, millions of people in affected regions have been marked safe, and tens of millions of people were notified that their friends and families are safe.

Facebook users can donate amounts starting from INR 500 here, and the amount collected through donation will go to International Medical Corps to help survivors.
