Previously Facebook was thought to be one of the most secure social sites available and certainly the most famous. The main reason for being the most popular certainly lies in its privacy setting since it was thought to be secure. Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg promised to be so. However, it came as a shock when the news regarding data harvesting surfaced recently. A company called Cambridge Analytica has improperly harvested information from over 50 million users worldwide. “It is a big deal and he knows it too,”- a source close to the CEO said.
So far, Mark Zuckerberg has not said anything about it. He was tight-lipped. However, it has been said by the officials that the CEO will very soon address the public regarding the issue and make an official announcement. The reason for the silence is said to be because Mark Zuckerberg wants to say something meaningful other than just rushing to the facts and conclusion.
This news of data harvesting has caused the stock prize rate of Facebook to plummet by a huge number. Zuckerberg is already planning on putting people’s trust back on Facebook so they can surf Facebook and share things without having to worry about it.
Someone has to take responsibility for this. It’s time for Mark Zuckerberg to stop hiding behind his Facebook page. – Conservative Legislator Damian Collins
The Cambridge Analytica crisis has its roots in a 2007 decision by Facebook to open access to its so-called social graph. This led to the problem of data harvesting. Axios has said that Zuckerberg is already talking to his engineers about how to make Facebook safer than it already is.
How Facebook will tackle this new problem is what everyone is keeping their eyes on.
