Apple and Amazon have put aside their differences to mutually benefit each other by coming together to boost sales. Amazon.com Inc announces this Friday that it shall carry more Apple Inc products globally in time for the holiday shopping season.
The coming weeks shall see an increased sale of the latest editions of Apple iPhones, iPads, and other devices on Amazon in USA, Europe, Japan, and India. Amazon has hitherto sold a limited assortment of products from Apple, including Mac computers and Beats headphones.
This deal brings to the fore the slow waning of the resistance posed against online retailing via Amazon by top brands like Nike and Apple’s; as the e-commerce site is rapidly becoming a critical channel for reaching a wider consumer base. For its part, Amazon has taken a harder line on counterfeit goods.
Starting from January 4th, 2019, Amazon plans to rid its site of all Apple products from third-party merchants not authorized by the tech giant. Shoppers shall, however, still be able to access non-branded accessories, like headphones, that are compatible with Apple devices.
Third-party merchant products shall continue to sell during the holiday season, with Amazon adding the Apple products to its official Apple on the Amazon page. While Amazon shall include Apple Watch, it has decided to forego Apple HomePod, a high-end alternative to Amazon Echo; since it shall give rise to unwanted competition in Silicon Valley that may come at the expense of the customers.
Alphabet Inc’s Google had pulled YouTube from two Amazon devices last year due to several complaints against the site, including its decision not to sell some of Google’s products. As of now, Amazon carries the Apple TV, but only since it has become compatible with Amazon’s Prime Video.
We’re working with Amazon to improve the experience for Apple customers on their site and we look forward to those customers having another great way to buy iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac and more. – Apple
Apple owes about 71 percent of its sales in fiscal 2018, that ended in September, to indirect distribution channels like Amazon.
