In recent years, we have seen several changes in the mobile device market in the area of screens. In 2016, we saw the first rumors talking about the arrival of screens at the ratio of 18:9 on smartphones.
This was confirmed in 2017 with the arrival of the LG G6 and the Samsung Galaxy S8. Then we saw Apple present the iPhone X as the biggest change in an iPhone and commemorative edition of ten years of the brand’s handsets, with the so controversial notch.
Then we saw several new solutions. At Mobile World Congress 2018, Vivo had caught the attention of the public with the APEX concept that hid the cameras inside the body in a retractable camera system, which was confirmed with the official NEX S.
Then Oppo showed a similar solution, but in this case, the entire top was mobile, with the Find X. OnePlus, for example, adopted the water-drop notch format in its smartphone. Xiaomi, with Mi Mix 3, has adopted a slider mechanism. ZTE, on the other hand, revealed the Nubia X, with two screens. Samsung, with the Galaxy A8s, decided to make a hole in the display to house the front camera.
The South Korean company will also introduce in-display camera sensor on the Galaxy S10 next year on an AMOLED display. The point is that competitors will want to race behind to upgrade themselves, just like Samsung. Apple, however, should be delayed, Ice Universe reports on Twitter.
Rumors are that in 2019, iPhones will still have such a notch to house the Face ID system, but by 2020 they will make use of the same solution as their biggest competitor, Samsung. Of course, there is still a lot of time to go by then, so some plans may change, new technologies may appear, and so on.
