The music streaming platform, Spotify, could finally make its launch in India on 31 January. Last year, a licensing deal with T-Series, one of the largest record labels in India, was signed by Sweden-based Spotify. Spotify, one of the global pioneers in the music streaming space, will compete with Amazon Prime Music, Apple Music, Gaana, Google Play Music, JioSaavn, and others.
A rumor last month claimed the company would be hosting a launch party in Mumbai. The music streaming service has already made deals with several big Indian labels. In March last year, Spotify opened its office in Mumbai and hired around 300 people. At present, the company is still poaching people from competitors such as JioSaavn.
The Indian music and film company will provide Spotify access to its entire catalog, which consists of both Bollywood and regional music. The streaming giant will also have access to non-film music and content from emerging artists. This deal will make Spotify more appealing to Indian users.
However, Spotify’s launch in India conditions new surprise deals that are yet to be finalized by the company. While the app is to be available in English, the company hopes to launch in different regional music markets as well in India.
