Sony revealed its Sony RX0 II with a 4K sensor inside. It’s very similar in size to its predecessor, with a 2.3in x 1.59in x 1.38in the body that weighs just 132 grams – featuring a wide-angle Zeiss-branded Tessar T*24 mm fixed lens, super slow-mo video recording capability at up to 960 frames per second. But unlike the GoPro Hero cameras, the Sony RX0 couldn’t create a buzz in the action camera segment.

As an action camera, Sony RX0 II boasts of dust and waterproof rating of IP68 and MIL-STD810G shockproof certification. You’d think it impractical, but Sony still managed to add a tiltable LCD screen for those awkward angles and selfies. It even has built-in Wi-Fi for remotely controlling up to five or even 100 cameras, the latter with a Control Box. The camera offers different creative styles and picture effects that one can use while shooting stills.

The RX0 II supports internal 4K 30p recording and can stabilize your footage even when in handheld mode. The device is waterproof up to 33 feet, is tough enough to survive being crushed with 400 pounds of force, and can withstand the impact of a drop up to 6.5 feet. That selfie-friendly screen is bolstered by Sony’s Eye AF, which locks onto the eyes of the subject’s eyes, and Soft Skin Effect that can cover minor blemishes.

The camera comes with an ISO sensitivity of 80-12800 for being able to shoot in low light conditions. It measures 59mm x 40.5mm x 35mm, weighs in at a total of 132 grams, and is built in such a way that it’s waterproof to up to 10 meters with its IP68 certification and is shockproof and dust-proof through its MIL-STD810G rating.

The Sony RX0 II will retail for 800 EUR ($900) starting in May in Europe. That easily surpasses its predecessor’s $700 price tag, which might make it even harder to sell among cheaper 4K action cameras from equally reputable brands.
