Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo plans to name its new brand of smartphone as Vivox. LetsGoDigital reported that Vivo intends to make a larger change. Vivox will not be the name of a new smartphone, but it will be the new company name!
Vivo Mobile Communications has filed eight trademark applications with the (European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The names are as follows – Vivox APEX, Vivox NEX, Vivox S, Vivox U, Vivox V, Vivox Y, Vivox Z and finally, Vivox IQOO.
The applications were submitted by GLP SRL from Italy. This company also recorded a series of new Vivo smartphone models for the V, X, and Y series earlier this year. All eight trademarks are categorized as Class 9, with the description; ‘smartphones; mobile phones.
If you are a bit familiar with Vivo then you know that these are mostly existing smartphone series that the Chinese manufacturer currently carries. For example, you will find the most advanced devices within the NEX model range, including a double-sided smartphone, the NEX Dual Display. The APEX happens to the special concept model exhibited earlier this year. 5G smartphone has no buttons or ports. High-end smartphones come within the X-series, the V-series are middle-class smartphones, and budget-phones are carried under the Y-series.
The Vivo Z series was introduced earlier this month, these models will only be sold online. The company follows the same strategy as sister company Oppo uses for the K-series. Earlier this year the first Vivo S-series smartphone was also released, the Vivo S1 is already being sold in China and Thailand, next week this device will also be launched in India.

Regarding the U-series, earlier this year the rumor arose that Vivo intends to release this new phone series with budget smartphones in India. This time, however, the name is also registered for Europe. Then we have the name IQOO, under this sub-brand Vivo introduced a gaming smartphone earlier this year, the Vivo IQOO.
The trademark applications seem to show that the name Vivo simply changes to Vivox. It is a remarkable name change. Earlier this month there was a rumor that the company would soon start selling Vivo smartphones in Europe, possibly that the company intends to use the name VivoX only here.
In the meantime, however, the company has had the Vivox name registered in almost all countries. It, therefore, seems likely that an official announcement about this will take place within the next few weeks.
Incidentally, it must be added that the trademark applications have not yet been approved, all applications are still under investigation. It is a normal practice that this will take some time. However, Vivox is also a leading American company that offers voice and text chat services for the video game industry.
The company Vivox Inc has already submitted a trademark for this in 2011, but this trademark has not been extended and is therefore no longer valid. The request status is currently set to ‘Rejected’. Besides, the company was purchased by Unity earlier this year. There is a good chance that the Chinese Vivo will be assigned these trademarks.
Vivo has scheduled a press conference in India on 7 August 7. Presumably, the first S-series smartphone will be introduced there. Perhaps we will also hear more about the new name, although there is a good chance that we will have to wait a little longer, after all, this is not a local release. The date of 7 August is of course not entirely chosen at random, on the same day the new Samsung Galaxy Note 10 series is also expected.
