Google launched its newly designed AI-powered Google News based on Google Play Newsstand, that’s being replaced. The iOS version of the app across iPhone and iPad has been made available primarily, and it will be made available for Android soon.

The new Google News naturally brings a better experience than the old one. It aims to provide personalized content to users from trustworthy qualitative sources. It will further support the efforts of the publishers. The major ambition is to seek and provide full coverage on almost every issue in order to ‘broaden and deepen reader perspectives.’

In the context of comparison with Apple News for iPhone users, Google’s new app is presently a much-discussed topic. Of course, it will not replace Apple News as some speculated! Beforehand, Apple News could easily top Google News, but the redesign of the latter with improvements in UI and UX makes it a deliberate tough competitor now.

Also, Apple News has advertising, whereas Google News headlines and news pages are yet to have ads. Having said that, it allows publishers to insert ads on their story pages, and many of these have ads already.

For creating personalized news content, Google News uses history and interests of the users. Google puts it as “a mix of the most important headlines, local news and the latest developments on the topics you’re interested in.”

Now, every story presented by the app will come with an icon that’ll expand it into ‘full coverage of that issue. This ‘full coverage’ feature includes a vast series of sources and perspectives on the respective topic. In the tech giant’s words, it will be a real-time 360 degree-view of the stories. The feature is dubbed the most powerful one of the app, and everyone getting to see the same content under it.

The app may have replaced the Google Play Newsstand, but it has a Newsstand button. This button carries branded publisher icons for users to add to their feeds and follow or subscribe to via respective Google accounts.

According to the company, it collaborated with over 60 publishers to develop the redesign. Tell us your experience with the new Google News in comments below. Stay tuned to receive details regarding the Android rollout and more!
