Alibaba-owned DingTalk app has launched its English version in India and Malaysia. The enterprise chat app launch caters to the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), announced on January 15 via its news site Alizila. This will add competition to India’s growing enterprise chat and collaboration app market. The chat app has been hitherto limited to the Chinese market only. This is the first push outside China since its launch three years ago in April 2015.

The company is all set to hit the launch of the app in other south-east Asian countries, and a Japanese version of the App is also currently under development. Wang added – “We believe that this is the future of the workplace, and we see immense potential in helping businesses redefine their organizational connectivity”.

The app helps to improve the communication gap between its vendor companies and other independent SMEs. It permits one-on-one and group chats and audio and video conferencing, enabling up to 3,000 parties in a single call with integrated email, chats, and message reminder feature and document storage. Voice and video calls are available only via VoIP for outside China users.

The app is available for iOS, Mac, and Windows operating systems. The App claims to have 5 million clients to date, but despite such mass users in China, it failed to take on WeChat, which has 800 million users. The app can also send files up to 700 MB and is to compete with other big services such as Slack, WeChat, and others. As reported by the Chinese website Weibo, the use of the app DingTalk has ramped up in China heavily.

Despite downloads across China, Will the Alibaba-owned DingTalk app be able to compete in the competition with other messaging apps in India?
