Amazon is ready to try their hands on something very unique. The world’s largest web retailer is expanding Amazon Go, where customers will scan their smartphones at turnstile while entering the airports. The shopping will be monitored by the camera and after they are done with their shopping they can leave the store as Amazon will simply bill their credit card on file.
Amazon has opened similar 7 stores since January in cities like San Francisco, its hometown Seattle and Chicago. The growth Amazon has shown in the last few years is totally incredible. The retail giant started off as an online bookseller site and now they are turning each root brick into money by capturing this whole shopping world.
This is a great and smart step taken by Amazon to introduce these checkout-free stores to airports where most people run out of time and need to get their shopping done in the shortest span.
According to the records of a public request and airport operators, Amazon is working and doing their recce of top U.S airports for the new location.
Here is a glimpse of an Email which was received in the month of June, “The lead for Amazon Go requested a meeting,” read a June 27 email from a technology adviser who supports Los Angeles International, the second-busiest airport in the country, to a concessions official. “Interested?”
Though from both of the airports have confirmed that there was no further correspondence about Amazon Go and possibly the buyers will have to go through a competitive bid process. Amazon Web Service is in touch with the representatives of both the airports but the status is still not clear.
Operating through the web and in the airport will be a different challenge for Amazon Go.
A concessions manager for Dallas Fort Worth International Airport emailed the vice president in charge of Amazon Go, asking for a partnership “on the first Airport Amazon Go location in the month of September.
Though the airport did not comment whether the concession manager received any response from the president in charge of Amazon Go or not.
