The upcoming version of Android – Android Q is said to include programs to prevent your phone’s incoming call ringtone from playing over a held call when you’re holding your phone up to your ear, a move that will protect your ears from eardrum damage. This information is in accordance with a recently merged commit which states: “Suppress ringtone when the device is on ear.”
According to the code, the system will check the proximity and gravity sensors to determine if the phone is being held up and near the ear. When the phone receives another phone call while one call is on hold, the system will determine the phone’s position through a sensor reading. Moreover, it is likely that this innovative feature will
have a negligible effect on battery life.
At present, Google is experimenting with this feature in their Android Q dogfooding group, so as to make Android Q available for the Google Pixel 2 and upcoming Google Pixel 3.
