Apple’s chipset supplier Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. has started the production of the Apple A13 Bionic chip for its next line of iPhones which will be unveiled during this year’s fall.
The processor will be built on a 7nm+ manufacturing process and will be present in the 2019 lineup of iPhones. Dubbed as A13, it went into early test production in April and mass-production is planned for as early as this month. TSMC is said to be the sole supplier of A13 chips for the 2019 iPhones and has started the trial production of the upcoming system-on-chips. The report also revealed that TSMC would start mass production of Apple A13 by the end of May.
The Apple chipsets are often ranked as top performers by analysts and professional websites. That helps set the iPhone apart from its Android-based competition, which relies heavily on Qualcomm Inc. processors. Some rivals, such as Samsung Electronics Co. and Huawei Technologies Co., have embraced Apple’s approach and now make phones using their chips.
Besides, the A13 chip details, Bloomberg asserts that the iPhone XS successor is codenamed as ‘D43’ and the new iPhone XR is codenamed as ‘N104’. Each of the models will get an extra camera with the ‘iPhone 11’ adding an ultra-widened lens. Bloomberg says that Apple’s next iPhone hardware upgrades will enable more detailed photos and ‘a broader range of zoom’.
The site also says that Apple will allow users to charge their wireless-charging AirPods by placing it on the rear of an iPhone 11. Bilateral power charging for the iPhone was first detailed by Ming-Chi Kuo and is already seen in flagship Android devices.
