Apple has asked for reconsideration regarding the results of the legal battle between itself and VirnetX, as reported by Law360.
In April 2018, a lawsuit was filed against Apple’s alleged infringement upon four VirnetX patents detailing secure communications, and the jury had given the nod to conferring $502.6 million on VirnetX.
In August 2018, Apple’s motion for a new trial was denied, and Apple met the same fate in January 2019 by the U.S. Court of Appeals. After a long and costly legal contention, where Apple repeatedly tried to sidestep paying VirnetX a huge sum, Apple failed to convince the U.S. Court of Appeals that such a high cost for patent infringement should not have to be paid by Apple.
However, the company reportedly petitioned the Federal Circuit to rehear the panel discussion supporting the $439 million Eastern District of Texas jury verdict.
