Apple has been developing AR headsets for quite some time now, and only recently the California based company has shared a few of the details.

Apple is planning on integrating 5G network connectivity with the AR headset. Reportedly, Apple will use mmWave and Sub-6GHz technology. The AR headset which is likely to be called Apple Glasses, would not come with Wi-Fi connectivity. The fact that the headset will look like normal glasses would make it more appealing to the market.

The glasses will come with its own set of sensors to make sure that the image projected is exactly the same as the one real object. To make the glasses seem perfect, Apple is taking help from previously collected data through iPhone and Apple Watch sensors. Moreover, an iPhone will be imperative for setting up the Apple glasses; however, Apple Watch looks like an option when it comes to the setup process.

The Apple Glasses will run on a new OS codenamed ‘Starboard’, and earlier leaks have suggested it will rely on QR codes to display different experiences to the user. These experiences will be limited to the person who is wearing the glasses, and someone from outside cannot see or determine what the user is seeing on their screen.

The YouTuber, Jon Prosser, who revealed the specs of the Apple Glasses mentioned that so far the prototype was only sporting a black color, but we can assume that when Apple goes forward with production, it may be available in different colors.

Apple is keeping it close to its heart and has not revealed its launch plans for the AR headset but it is being speculated that it will go on sale either in 2021 or in 2022.

The invite that Apple had sent out included a Memoji wearing a pair of glasses that display a notification, so it may be that Apple is planning to launch the product during the WWDC 2020 in late June.
