Reports have arrived of Apple working on a new suite of devices combining technologies from iOS and Mac devices. The project goes by the name Star, with the company calling so internally.
The new lineup’s prototype models feature a SIM card slot, touchscreen, GPS, compass, and water resistance. Apple’s supplier Pegatron has manufactured a small batch of the ‘N84’ devices and sent them to Cupertino the tech leader’s headquarters.
As per speculations, it could be an iOS notebook or a widely rumored ARM-based MacBook. No detail has been revealed in any area to comprehend anything about the new device lineup.
Prototype models in circulation boot are using EFI or Extensible Firmware Interface, like Intel-based Macs of Apple. Therefore, there could be a new convertible ARM MacBook. Although, the new lineup is reported to run a derivative of iOS and not of macOS.
Having said that, sources say the hardware is classified under an entirely new family of devices, which is distinct from the existing iOS product series.
Apple is long rumored to transit the Mac lineup from Intel processors to ARM designs. Also, a report from earlier in May said that the company planned to ditch x86 architecture for in-house silicon by 2020.
Stay put to get more of Apple’s new doings.
