The fans of Apple’s iPad mini may have to wait a while for the next update. After the iPad mini 5 release last year, there were speculations going on for the release of its successor this year. However, it looks very likely that it may not happen.
A tipster named Komiya( @komiyaappleseed) tweeted that there will be no new iPad mini released in 2020 and 2021. Going by Apple iPad mini release history it did take 3.5 years between the release of the iPad mini 4 and iPad mini 5 so it’s highly probable that we have to wait for the release of the next model.
The iPad mini has a strong consumer base because of its features which are better than a standard iPad and less expensive than the iPad Air model which consists of similar features.
However, there are other iPad models which are slated for a release very soon in the September-October period which may have also caused Apple to delay the release of iPad mini 6.
Certain reports have suggested that Apple has been focusing more on bringing out iPad Air 4. And a new iPad mini will provide it with tough competition hence it has been kept out of the market.
Apple is also working on iPad 8th generation. It has a similar configuration to that of iPad 7th gen, but will receive SoC upgrade to an A12 Bionic chipset. The screen size will remain 10.2 inches as iPad 7. The iPad 8th holds the edge over the iPad mini 5 because of its larger screen size.
Market has shown that consumers have been shifting towards larger screen models, and therefore the focus from Apple may not be on another iPad mini for now. Apple is also preparing for a new iPad Pro release, and according to rumor-mill the device will run on the advanced A14X Bionic chip and also support 5G networks.
