Apple’s much anticipated and hyped model, iPhone X, was made commercially available in November 2017, marking the tenth anniversary of the line of Apple smartphones. Made of glass and stainless steel, the iPhone X has several unique features to boast of, beginning with a ‘Super Retina display. This device has also debuted ‘Face ID’ to replace the pre-existing ‘Touch Id.’ They also feature ‘Animoji’, a 3-D emoji that mimics the users’ facial expressions. Ever since its release, however, users have started complaining about problems of overheating and unexpected data consumption by the device.
User reports suggest that the device has been heating up without any probable reason, even when they are simply kept in the pockets. One user has reported that his wife’s phone had heated up to the point where it could not be touched and had to be put into the refrigerator to combat the problem. The devices have a notification mechanism to warn users about overheated phones. But even this mechanism is not functioning properly, leaving the users bewildered about the growing problems. The overheated iPhones are reportedly draining batteries and causing apps to crash.
Another major problem that the users are facing while using their shiny new iPhones is an unexpected consumption of cellular data even when data is disabled on their devices. On being approached with the problem, the company has reportedly claimed that the latest model has certain enhanced features that will use cellular data despite an active WiFi connection.
Users have reported that the problem persisted even after changing their iPhone X devices. They have approached Apple support with their problems and a number of users have taken to Reddit and Twitter to voice their issues. While Apple has not made any official statement about it, the escalating number of complaints may compel the company to take some action soon.
