Recently, Russia alleged that the United States of America’s Intelligence agency NSA hacked thousands of iPhones to spy on Russia in collaboration with Apple. Nonetheless, Apple has quashed all the allegations in an update. FSB, which is a Russian security bureau, has alleged NSA and Apple straightaway for hacking phones.
As per the FSB, thousands of iPhones were infected by spyware which also included the devices of diplomats from the former Soviet Union and Russia. Not only this, but the diplomats from China, Syria, NATO, and even Israel have also been compromised in the same attack. Reports suggest that the iOS spyware used to infiltrate the phones was discovered at the time when Russian officials were investigating the country’s telecommunications infrastructure.
At this point, it isn’t very easy to say that the claims made by FSB are completely true. Keeping the past in mind, FSB itself systematically deployed malware.
In addition, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has recently halted the Russian Snake malware network. With this attack, the FSB got some sensitive documents from more than fifty countries, as suggested by the American Judiciary. Spyware has been in action for the last twenty years.
Russian cybersecurity company Kaspersky’s CEO, Eugene Kaspersky, said the company explored a cyberattack involving iOS devices. The attack affected the devices of more than a dozen company employees. The initial traces of the infection are connected to a similar attack in 2019.
As of now, it is not clear whether the mentioned two attacks are linked
with each other or not. Talking about Apple, the company has clearly said that they have never, and never will, cooperate with any government to put a back door in any kind of Apple direct.
