Today, the American tech giant, Apple has officially announced the rolling out of a new update on the Apple Map App for Germany and Singapore users featuring more detailed road coverage, improved navigation, three-dimensional landmarks, improved views of parks, buildings, airports, shopping centers, and availability of the Look Around feature.
According to the company Maps aficionado Justin O’Beirne, noted that the extension comes after 48 days of public testing, marking the fourteenth time Apple has increased its new map data since its public rollout in September 2018. Germany and Singapore are the twelfth and thirteenth countries to receive Apple’s new map data, respectively, with Singapore becoming the first Asian country to do so.
The new map app now covers 18.4 percent of the Earth’s surface area and 8.5 percent of the global population, according to O’Beirne (or 673 million people worldwide). After over four years of expansions and nearly eight years of data collection, here is the result. Also, the next update will most likely include France and Monaco according to the company.
Apple’s revamped maps initially appeared in iOS 12, and the Cupertino company has been trying to expand them ever since. The new Maps app features improved navigation, as well as more comprehensive views of roads, buildings, malls, sports fields, vegetation, pools, pedestrian routes, bodies of water, and more.
Look Around street view, which was first introduced in the US with iOS 13 in 2019, is now available on Apple Maps for both areas. Natural Language Guidance is now used in Siri directions, according to Apple, making navigation instructions more natural, such as turning left at the next traffic light.
Additionally, the latest update also includes the Share ETA feature, which allows drivers to send their arrival time to a designated person or individuals through Message. Apple Maps notifies the recipients of any substantial delays as they drive.
Speaking with pressmen in Singapore Apple’s senior vice president of Services, Eddy Cue, said Apple Maps is the best way to explore and navigate the world, all while protecting your privacy and the company is excited to bring this experience to even more users.
