Competition among Apple’s suppliers for mini-LED display chips has increased extensively. It is expected that this increase in competition will probably force apple to choose the advanced technology in its iPad and MacBook, waiting in the queue.
In regards to the competitions, Sanan Optoelectronics has yielded stunning development on the chip. It has promised to supply chips to Apple in the coming 2021 instead of 2022. However, Epistar has been labelled as the probable potential supplier of the chip in 2021 for the Apple company.
It can be assumed that with this gradual rise in the competition among suppliers, Apple’s cost for mini-LED display will undergo a drift by $30-$40 (from $75–$85 down to around $45).
Moreover, in 2021 the mini-LED technology also has the capacity of appearing in approximately 30-40% of iPad shipments and 20-30% of MacBook shipments, which in the past was estimated to be 10-20% shipment share for both iPad and MacBook.
There is a rumor about Apple introducing mini-LED display technology to its upcoming iPad Pro and MacBook. Nearly six months have passed since the news came up that Apple has plans to launch six mini-LED products at the end of the coming 2021.
The six mini-LED products mentioned above include the following-
- a 27-inch iMac Pro
- 16-inch MacBook Pro
- a 10.2.-inch iPad
- a 7.9-inch iPad mini
- a 12.9-inch iPad Pro
- a 14.1-inch MacBook Pro
The upcoming mini-LED technology offers a large number of improvements. It can offer deeper, bold blacks, vibrant brights, richer colours, better contrast and performs better when compared to traditional LED-backlit displays and has similar performing features of OLED display, devoid of its cons.
