As per the reports, Apple will introduce its first iPad Pro with an OLED display during the second half of 2021. The OLED screens will be manufactured by Samsung.

Samsung has already started renovating one of its production lines specifically for the OLED iPad displays. LG is also in the line for the production.

According to The Elec report, Samsung Display was renovating one of its production lines at its A4 factory in Asan to produce the iPad’s OLED screens. The tech giant is expected to use a new production method that helps prevent burn-in and extends the OLED panel’s life simultaneously.

LG is already known for its using of the new manufacturing method in OLED displays built for cars. It will also join the manufacturing process of the OLED screen in 2021.

The OLED panels for the iPhones were supposed to be delivered by the Chinese display maker BOE in 2020. However, BOE failed to secure the deal with Apple due to some manufacturing issues at their Chengdu plant. As a result, Samsung and LG would provide the panels for the iPhones too.

The mini- LED

TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted some time ago that Apple plans to start bringing new mini-LED displays to its iPads from 2021 onwards.

MicroLED, also known as micro-LED, is an emerging flat-panel display technology. The mini-LEDs are expected to be brighter, more colorful, and more efficient than the LCD screens used in iPad today.

However, sources reveal that mini-LEDs are the stepping stone for turning towards the OLED. Though taking a step forward towards the OLED, mini-LED screens will still be used for the iPads.

The Elec report says, “Apple is expected to use direct backlight LCD panels for the iPad Pro launching in the first half of 2021”. Mini- LEDs are still a temporary option for the iPads for now. Apple would use the much speculated OLED screens later in 2021.
