Apple has applied for a patent for a simple feature in its HomePods. This has been approved and published by the US Patent and Trademark Office today. The HomePods can now act as HomePhones, with the new technology which will be used as a hands-free.
This HomePod will be enabled to receive incoming phone calls and can be accessed while doing any other task at hand. The iPhone can be configured in a matter to redirect the phone calls to home to the HomePod.
Thus the Siri can be instructed to pick up the phone without having to use the iPhone with this new patented technology. Apple has said this feature is meant to “add a secure communications link between a smart home device (HomePod) and a smartphone device (iPhone) that can be used to relay audio for a telephone call from the smartphone device to the smart home device. “Thus it will be beneficial for emergency situation thereby giving people the option to attend phone calls easily.
A Home network environment can be made in a place that can have many HomePods. Along with the HomePods, other secondary devices can also pick up the calls without using the cellular.
According to sources in the U.S. Patent Office, the application of the patent by Apple was made in March 2020, the published results of which came out this month amidst the global crisis.
