In a bid to ease China’s economy from the major Covid-19 lockdowns in business hubs in Shanghai and Beijing, the American multinational technology company Apple has today set up four days of discounts on its top-tier iPhones and related accessories for Chinese buyers.

According to a report from Bloomberg, the firm is reportedly preparing a rare iPhone discount on its top-tier iPhones and related accessories in advance of the launch of its next-generation devices and will take up to 600 yuan ($89) off the price of its top-line iPhone 13 Pro series between July 29 to August 01, 2022.

Buyers must use one of a limited number of payment platforms, such as Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.’s Alipay, to be eligible. The promotion also includes specific AirPods and Apple Watch models.

The price cuts come as China’s economy attempts to recover from major Covid-19 lockdowns in business hubs Shanghai and Beijing, which have harmed sales of leading domestic smartphone brands ranging from Xiaomi Corp. to Vivo and Oppo.

According to national statistics, Apple bucked the trend by registering healthy growth in China shipments in June, though the discounts suggest that even it has excess inventory heading into the second half of the year.

However, in a similar report, Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter predicted over the weekend that Apple’s next generation of Watch would include a rugged ‘Pro’ model with an all-new design and a more durable formulation of titanium to make it extra rugged, something first introduced five years after the first patent was made public.

Although Gurman went on to say that the design will reportedly be an evolution of the current rectangular shape, rather than circular, and will avoid ‘flat sides’ while using a more durable titanium formulation to make it extra rugged.

Back in April 2017, Apple was first reportedly considering using titanium in future Apple devices, including the Apple Watch. Apple originally filed for that patent in September 2016. Since then, Patently Apple has published several additional titanium-related patents. Stay connected with TechGenyz as we bring you the latest updates in the Tech world.
