Apple recently updated its Worldwide Vintage iPhone list earlier today. The Vintage List now reportedly includes iPhone 6 Plus.

The iPhone 6 Plus first got into the market over seven years ago in September 2014, the same time as its iPhone 6 contemporary. However, the tech company stopped producing the iPhone 6 series after releasing the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

While the new vintage iPhone 6 Plus lasted for about two years, the iPhone 6 device still sold in 2018. By implication, iPhone 6 won’t join the group of aging iPhone devices until a few more years.

What the new list means

Apple designates its devices on a “Vintage List” between five and seven years after the company last distributed them. The tech giant had enlisted five products in the vintage category worldwide before the news of Apple’s latest vintage product filtered in this morning. The iPhone 6 Plus comes as number 6, having never sold for more than half a decade.

One of the first “Big iPhones” that hit the market, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are renowned for being the first to support Apple Pay. Their launch also marked the first time Apple would offer the iPhone in different sizes, an option which the company has continued to date.

Other Vintage iPhone devices are the iPhone 4 (8GB), the iPhone 4S, and iPhone 4S (4GB). The iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C complete the erstwhile group of obsolete iPhone devices.

The Apple iPhone 6 Plus hasn’t had any iOS feature update since iOS 13 launched in 2019. As it stands, it won’t ever use the iOS 15. Although Apple no longer manufactures devices it designates as aging. It still has some spare parts available for repairs.
