It seems Samsung is really serious about wearables- the company, on its official YouTube channel, teased a new upcoming smartwatch Samsung Gear S2. The device looks different from its predecessor, Gear S, which the company launched in September last year.
Though the company has not unveiled more about the device except “What’s next is circular. The new Samsung Gear S2 is coming. Ready to turn,” we can assume from the teaser that it might give a tough fight to its rival Apple Watch.
Earlier Samsung launched Gear S with a curved 2-inch AMOLED display that measured at 260×480 resolution. It had a dual-core 1.0 GHz processor alongside 4GB of internal storage and 512MB of RAM with several other features like a GPS sensor, an accelerometer, gyroscope, UV detector, barometer, and heart rate monitor.
The Samsung Gear S2 seems to have more enhanced features than its predecessor. You will be able to make calls and send a message from your smartwatch without relying on your phone. However, it is not clear what the keypad will look like in the rounded display.
From the teaser, it is confirmed that the device will be round-shaped with a metal band. Gear S2 will probably have a few optimized apps like a weather app, a time zone app, a stopwatch app, and a sports-tracking app. It is also assumed that the smartwatch would come with a heart-rate sensor and fitness level calculator – to measure your activity levels and calculate the number of calories burned daily.
As the company did not reveal much about the smartwatch, we had to wait until September 3, 2015, for the launch of the device.
