The  Mac Studio and the 27-inch Studio Display launched in March 2022 were the last Intel-based 27-inch iMacs launched by Apple. Since then, the company has discontinued the launch of the same and has already added the iMac Pro to the list of its discontinued products last March. Several publications reported that Apple had ruled out the possibility of a 27-inch iMac in November 2023.

Apple has been trying to convince people to buy its 24-inch iMac or upgrade to a Mac Studio / Studio Display combo, but despite this, there have been recurring rumors that a larger-screened iMac with a display larger than thirty inches is in the works. Rumors about the machine have been quiet since mid-2023 when it was said to be in the early stages of development.

Recently, Mark Gurman, the Bloomberg reporter sparked hopes for a larger iMac model. In his latest weekly report, he stated that “A larger iMac remains something Apple is exploring,…”. However, he also stated that it is not clear if the device will use Apple’s latest M4 processor. According to Gurman, Apple plans to upgrade its 24-inch iMac to an M4 processor later this year, but given the larger model’s current development stage, this may be too early.

In June 2023, Gruman reported that Apple was in the initial stages of developing a new iMac with a more than 30-inch display and that it was two years away from achieving its goal. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted a 32-inch iMac with a mini-LED display for 2025 in October 2023. As Kuo did not specify, such a machine could be positioned as an “iMac Pro” to replace Apple’s discontinued 2017 model.

Therefore, there have been speculations that Apple might release a larger M4 iMac in 2025 along with the upgrades to the MacBook Air, Mac Pro, and Mac Studio. Another speculation suggests that Apple will hold out for its M5 chips, which could see a bigger iMac in 2026 onwards.
