Apple recently published a solution to the bug problem that is causing a few problems which are leading to missing Workout GPS route data for Apple Watch iOS 14 and watchOS 7 users.

The problem first came to light last week when most of the Apple Watch users found that their devices failed to lodge GPS mapping data for recent workouts. For some, the data in the Fitness app on the iPhone was removed after using both Apple’s own Workout app, and third-party workout apps. The California-based tech-giant offered a solution, but for a lot of users that solution turned out to be a rather extreme one.

According to the solution, the users of iOS 14 and watchOS 7 need to completely erase and restore both devices from iCloud Backup. According to the solution, the users first need to unpair Apple Watch from iPhone, then the users should create or update a current iCloud Backup after checking if Health data storage is enabled on iCloud.

After completing these steps, a complete iPhone reset could erase all contents and settings. The users, then, need to restore iPhone from the recently saved iCloud Backup, pair and restore Apple Watch using the Watch app.

This solution is not solely for the missing workout route maps, but it could also help other minor issues related to the Fitness app, the Health app, or the Activity app, as pointed out by the document released by Apple.

Although the company came up with a solution, the company has failed to offer an explanation for it. It cannot be denied that a complete system reset on both iPhone and Apple Watch is rather a drastic measure. But it also may mean that iOS 14 and watchOS 7 are suffering from a data handling, storage, or synchronization bug. However, a complete reset appears to be the only solution.
