Today, the leading Chinese provider of smart home products, Aqara, has announced unveiling the newly upgraded HomeKit-compatible G2H Pro camera with several notable modifications.
The smart home accessory maker unveiled the G2H camera in December last year. However, the new upgraded one maintains the same form factor as the original G2H but has new internals. The alarm is now visible in the Home app and supports all four security system modes. The latest model, like the G2H, has an integrated 1080p camera that enables HomeKit Secure Video.
The camera is currently available on Amazon in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France, with authorized Aqara shops throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania to follow in the coming months.
The G2H Pro inherits and improves numerous premium features from its predecessor, including the Zigbee 3.0 hub function, which now supports up to 128 Aqara accessories, and the slightly broader viewing angle expanding from 140° to 160° (diagonal) due to the lack of distortion correction.
The new G2H Pro model, like the G2H, functions as a home security center and connects to other Aqara sensors. The camera warns users by smartphone, triggers the built-in siren, and records a brief video clip that will be synced to the Aqara cloud in the event of aberrant sound detection, an unexpected door opening, or an unexpected human motion.
Some key modifications to the new G2H Pro camera include: Aside from HomeKit Secure Video and HomeKit-enabled 2-way audio, the G2H Pro supports all four modes of the HomeKit Security System, which syncs instantly with the Aqara Home app’s Alert System.
Apart from HomeKit, the G2H Pro is also compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Home, allowing you to stream to Amazon and Google smart displays.
More storage options: customers can utilize a microSD card with a maximum size of 512 GB for local storage or Samba NAS storage with SMB 1.0-compatible software.
Activity zones and privacy masking: On the Aqara Home app, users can set up activity zones to reduce unnecessary alerts, as well as local privacy masking zones to prevent certain parts of an image from being recorded or sent to Aqara or third-party ecosystems like HomeKit, Alexa, and Google for added privacy.
Therefore, G2H Pro users can use uploaded recordings as ringtones and for home automation, and they can use the new timelapse clip generating feature to create a short video summarizing the day.
The Aqara cloud storage is available without a subscription and may be turned off in the app. Users can opt to record and preserve simply the clips of such essential moments locally if local storage is available or to record continuously and keep the material 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Aqara is currently offering a 15% discount on the new G2H Pro on its Amazon brand stores to commemorate the launch. The camera is currently available for $69.99. Consumers in the United States and Canada can take advantage of the deal by using the promo code G2HPROPR, while customers in the United Kingdom, Germany, and France can use the promo code PRG2HPRO. Both coupons are valid until March 5, 2022.
