“Avengers: Infinity War” has hit the domestic box office by the storm. The most awaited movie of this year has made $106 million at the domestic box office on its opening day and earned $250 million in its first weekend, making it the biggest domestic opening of all time. This huge collection has earned the Infinity War the record of the second-biggest opening day in history.
Now the “Infinity War” is in second place only after “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” which earned $119 million in 2015 on its opening day. The latest edition from the Marvel Production raked a ton of money in pre-sales and last-minute ticket purchases which made Avengers: Infinity War cross the record of Force Awakens, which held the record of the biggest opening weekend in history at $248 million. Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Jurassic World, The Avengers, and Black Panther, as the latest in a small group of just six films in history to cross the $200 million mark in their first weekend. The original Avengers opened with $207.4 million. Black Panther followed hot on its heels with $202 million in February and continues to break records as its theatrical run continues.
Very easily, the opening day for “Infinity War” left behind Marvel titles like “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “The Avengers,” and even the much-celebrated “Black Panther,” which opened with incredible fanfare earlier this year. The gross for “Infinity War” has pushed Disney over the $1 billion mark in North America for the year. It has got a big overseas start, too, earning $178.5 million since opening internationally on Wednesday.
It was the biggest opening day for a film in South Korea, Brazil, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. So this meant that “Infinity War” has already earned $178.5 million on the international front from 43 territories pushing Disney past $1 billion in domestic revenue for 2018.
With engrossing plotline and super action, the Marvel mash-up brings together superheroes, including Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, Chris Evans’ Captain America, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, and Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther, to team up to stop Thanos from obtaining the mystical Infinity Stones.
Marvel Studios, which is owned by Disney, has been one of the biggest success stories in film history because the franchise has 18 films open at No. 1 domestically, bringing in nearly $15 billion worldwide. The Infinity War has also gained huge acclamation from critics, it earned an 84% score on a review site with a 93% audience score.
