Yesterday, Amazon Web Services revealed Deeplens; its first deep learning enabled and fully programmable wireless video camera. In collaboration with Intel, AWS designed this device for the developers providing all skill levels and optimal tools required to create and design AI and machine learning devices.
By introducing Deepens, AWS and Intel are following the Intel Speech Enabling Developer Kit that offers a precise audio front-end solution for far-field voice control. The kit further helps third-party developers in accelerating consumer product designs while integrating Alexa Voice Service.
It has the capability to combine high processing power with easy-to-adopt UI for supporting training and deploying models in the cloud. It is powered by Intel’s Atom X5 processor having graphics embedded for endorsing object recognition.
Furthermore, It’s using deep learning software tools and libraries optimized by Intel. These provide real-time digital vision models directly on Deeplens, reducing cost and increasing spontaneous responsiveness.
One significant among the libraries that the camera uses is the Intel Compute Library for Deep Neural Networks (Intel cDNA), which accelerates DL Inference on Intel Processor Graphics.
Miles Kingston, General Manager of Smart Home Group at Intel, said, “We are seeing a new wave of innovation throughout the smart home, triggered by advancements in artificial intelligence and machine learning.”
He continued, “DeepLens brings together the full range of Intel’s hardware and software expertise to give developers a powerful tool to create new experiences, providing limitless potential for smart home integrations.”
The introduction of this new device will let developers design and make AI and machine learning products within minutes, thanks to the already deployed preconfigured frameworks in Deeplens. It is compatible with Apache MXNet for now, with Caffe2 and Tensorflow to be added to the list by the first quarter of 2018.
