It’s a joyous moment for many of the environmentalists as they wait for the downfall of bitcoin. The anti-crypto environmentalists are cheerful for the slump of bitcoin saying that “bitcoin is worthless and it will be seen no more.”
The celebration continues as they wait until the demise. Writer Ilana Strauss in all delight wrote in an article “Good riddance…We’ve known bitcoin was dropping for a while, but the nails are really going in the coffin now.”
For her, she was always anti of “imaginary currency” since it enthralls enough energy to mine. According to Strauss bitcoin mining took up more energy than 159 countries in 2017. Many environmentalists go on to believe that bitcoin mining is an existential threat to humankind.
The director of the Centre of Law and Developments, Qatar University Jon Truby asserts the humongous amount of energy devoured by cryptocurrency while mining that can actually aggravate greenhouse gas emissions and pollute the environment.
On his October 2018 paper, Truby wrote that “digital currency mining alone consumes more electricity than entire nations. It needs to be directed towards renewability if it is to realize its potential advantages.” He says that the existence of bitcoin is threatening for human existence since it was plotted with no consideration about its environmental impact and as such.
Cryptocurrency’s existence much bothers him, he calls for governmental intervention on crypto mining and said further development of blockchain should be curbed before the entire environment is threatened.
But all his dismay are in a drain, Truby admits that blockchain is an important technology and that “Bitcoin isn’t going anywhere it is here to stay.”
