On October 14, Chinese-based multi-tech firm Bytedance announced the launch of the screen content video codec BVC1S; it has been applied in Feishu remote collaborative screen sharing and will be integrated with the volcano engine video cloud product to widely open services to enterprise customers in the cloud platforms.

According to multiple reports, when juxtaposed with the industry’s mainstream X265 open-source encoder, BVC1S can speed up the coding process by 2.87 times. Also, it can save 85.3% of the code rate in the coding run-down of remote collaboration, virtual desktops, cloud gaming, and other applications. While considering the familiarized application like ROBO, the communication and sharing of screen content have turned out drastically. As we know, the screen video contents transpire from the machine screen rendering. The screen video content has a plethora of different attributes, including no captured noise and a single color of the text area. When we compared with natural video snapped in-camera.

In addition, the BVC1S codec was developed by the Volcano Engine Multimedia Laboratory subsidiary of Bytedance. It will enhance the video encoding of the screen content on desktops, laptops, and all mobile platforms; concurrently, BVC1S can upsurge the coding process by 2.87 times in the mentioned devices.

The test results suggest that under the same objective quality of peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) compared with the open-source H.265 encoder X265, BVC1S can save 85.3% of the code rate and increase the encoding speed by 2.87 times.

Furthermore, BVC1S can regulate the bit rate sagaciously, including automatically reducing the video bit rate in a lower bandwidth environment, and the receiving end uses a super-resolution algorithm to reinstate a lucid picture. Ultimately users with low connectivity speeds can also get a better user experience.
