One of the world’s most famous selfies was taken by Ellen DeGeneres at the 2014 Oscars and now Cara Delevingne did it again in London five years later in 2019. Just like Ellen, Cara also used a Samsung device to take the most trending Space Selfie on the internet today. With this first Space Selfie captured on Delevingne’s Galaxy S10, Samsung has taken it one step further into the future.

Cara Delevingne who is an actor, supermodel and philanthropist were present at a celebrity-filled event at the newly-opened Samsung KX experience space. Cara was introduced at the event hosted by Radio 1 DJ Clara Amfo. There she was spotted taking the world’s first Space Selfie on her Samsung S10+ and the selfie was trending as soon as it was uploaded.

In the selfie, Cara held a peace sign and wore an astronaut helmet. Later on, a group selfie was also taken by Cara. The epic group selfie featured A-list event attendees including; Italian rapper, singer and songwriter Fedez.

At the event, Cara and her girlfriend Ashley Benson were also surprised with bespoke handset cases by Samsung. The cases featured their respective personalized constellation star signs and initials, Leo (Cara) and Sagittarius (Ashley).

Cara Delevingne was seen having fun at the event and later she stated:

“I’m honored to be Samsung’s Space Selfie pioneer! To celebrate, I wanted to take the first group selfie to go to space. I can’t wait for my fans to join us in space and get their hands on a Space Selfie of their own.”

What is Space Selfie?

Samsung initiated the Space Selfie where the company will give its customers a chance to join Cara in space by uploading a photo to Samsung’s ‘Mission Control’. Owner’s images that are displayed on Galaxy S10 5G’s 6.7-inch screen, will be selected randomly and then the selfies will be captured using a unique view of planet earth as the backdrop. The captured image will be sent back down to earth for its owner to share the space life experience.

At the event, Benjamin Braun, the Chief Marketing Officer at Samsung Europe delivered a speech addressing their latest initiative.

“Tonight, we made history by unveiling the first selfie sent into space. Our relentless pioneering spirit continues to show that amazing things happen on a Samsung screen – even from the stratosphere. Our ethos is Do What You Can’t and the Samsung Space Selfie is just that. We continually break the boundaries of what is possible with innovation and tonight’s Space Selfie launch is no different.”

The images taken at the event will lift into the stratosphere this month as part of Space Selfie, a mission to give everyone the chance to get their face in space. The Space Selfie mission is accessible from the selected region and we hope that it will be soon unveiled for the other parts of the world too.
