LG strongly focuses on artificial intelligence in its latest smartphone models. For example, the LG G8 ThinQ, which was introduced earlier this year, is equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI) to offer a better user experience. Consider for example an AI Camera, but also the battery performance is improved by the addition of artificial intelligence. A new trademark indicates that LG and Hitachi also intend to release an AI Charger for smartphones.

Charge AI an intelligent wireless charger

On 10 June 2019, Hitachi-LG Data Storage applied for a trademark with the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) for the name Charge AI. A corresponding logo has also been deposited. The trademark is classified as Class 9, with the description; ‘wireless charger for smartphones; charging stand for smartphones, application software for smartphones’.

The application was submitted by Intellectual property experts Page White & Farrer from London. This company does not act in the name of LG Electronics, as you might think, but in the name of Hitachi-LG Data Storage.

In 2000, LG and Hitachi entered into a joint venture to make DVD and Blu-ray disk drives for desktop computers and notebooks. Together they have become quite successful in this and in the meantime, wireless chargers are also part of the company’s core business.

The name LG Charge AI seems to refer to a wireless charger that supports artificial intelligence. Asus previously released the AI Charger, which allows you to use any PC to charge Apple devices – such as an iPhone or iPad. Charging is 50% faster than normal, according to the manufacturer.

LG and Hitachi may also see a future in such a charging system, but for Android. Finally, all LG smartphones run on the Android operating system. It is still unknown when LG and Hitachi intend to introduce the new Charge AI charging system.
