Chrome OS is on the way to catching up with Android, which brings the former’s beta channel to bear the facility of inline message replies right from the notification shade. Android has been the same since 7.0 Nougat, and it works across many messaging apps, including Google’s own Android Messages and Hangouts.
Now, a number of Chromebooks support Android apps downloaded from Play Store. Therefore, it’s just natural that inline replies should work on Chrome OS.
Francois Beaufort of the Chrome team confirms that it will be done so soon. The feature is in the Chrome OS beta channel for selected Android apps.
THE Chrome OS inline replies feature works the same way on the Android platform. Your received notification of a message will prompt you to reply, tapping on which will get you a text field and the send option. You don’t have to open the subjective app to reply anymore.
On the other hand, Android P is about to get enhancements to messaging notifications, which include inline photos and smart replies. Chrome OS pacing up to get in line with Android couldn’t have come at a better time!
Stay tuned for the next update on the OS platforms of Google.
