Today, February 27, at MWC in Barcelona, Jasper of Cisco came up with its IoT strategies based on data management. The company officially and globally launched its Narrowband IoT platform and revealed its collaboration with SFR in network automation.
Theresa Bui, IoT cloud strategy platform Director of the company, said that their focus shifted from basic core connectivity to providing platforms for enterprise users. In her words, Cisco “gives customers an end-to-end solution for managing IoT deployments.”
The Narrowband IoT platform has its early proof-of-concept clients in China, Australia, and Singapore. China Unicom has been in pursuit of the platform for 16 months now.
Xiaotian Chen, GM of IoT business, China Unicom, said: “We expect to have over 100 million NB-IoT connections on our network by 2020. By embracing multiple technologies for both traditional and low-power devices, we give our customers – regardless of their industry – the flexibility to choose what fits their specific business needs.“
The benefit of NB-IoT is it’s so inexpensive to roll out devices on it and the data consumption is so low, so it lets service providers and customers think about how to monetise the IoT differently, thinking not about data costs, but business outcomes and transactions. That is a real shift in how service providers can think about NB-IoT as they scale, and it puts them more in direct partnership with customers. – Theresa Bui, IoT cloud strategy platform director of the company
The refined Control Centre product of NB-IoT provides several benefits for business enthusiasts. For one, multiple-mode connectivity management across IoT devices further enables them to provide customizable 4G service packages per business requirements. Secondly, the ability to ‘combine automation capabilities with real-time visibility and insight across vast IoT estates, letting users manage large-scale deployments at minimal cost.’
Cisco also announced IBN portfolio recently, which will add significant value for automating IoT deployments, according to Bui.
Our IBN solution set helps companies quickly deploy IoT devices out into the field. That, to me, is job number one – to make sure you can scale devices very quickly, wherever and whenever you need them. – Bui
Additionally, Cisco partners SFR of Altice Group revealed its partnership, who are deploying Network Services Orchestrator (NSO) of Cisco for advancing automation of 5G services. Cisco via a press release revealed details on benefits that SFR can enjoy with the aim to simplify its entire lifecycle management across its network services.
