The resurgence of a classic

The Motorola Razr 2019 rises to the recent trend of folding devices that have been appearing on the market, such as the Samsung Galaxy Fold, the Huawei Mate X and those that are to come. The difference is that here Motorola is betting on the design.

As we saw in the specifications table, the new Razr will not seek to win in the specifications race, neither be the most powerful device on the market or with the best camera. Here the main thing is what they have achieved in terms of design, by incorporating all the necessary components in a device less than 7 mm thick.

Of course, the biggest feature is its flexible screen that folds vertically, which brings us back that mythical “shell” design that allows you to fold the phone to reduce its size, even if this means increasing its thickness.

This flexible screen, known as ‘Flex View’, is a 6.2-inch pOLED touch panel in Cinemavision format, which is the same as a 21: 9 aspect ratio. Its resolution is 2142 x 876 pixels.

Motorola decided to take care of the details of this screen by adapting the design of the V3, so we will find that classic lower curvature. Although on the other hand, we have the incorporation of a notch at the top, where the front camera and speaker are located.

On the outside of the device, we have a second screen called ‘Quick View’, which is a 600 x 800-pixel gOLED touch panel with a 4:3 aspect ratio. This screen will serve to show notifications and the vision of the main camera. Since Motorola has implemented an API for developers to take advantage and implement new functions, such as games or other possible utilities without having to open the device.

As for the design, Motorola says it maintained the same profile and thickness of the V3. In this area, below the external screen, we also have the fingerprint sensor that will help us to lock the device.

The Moto Razr screen is made of glass. As for the frame and the hinge, stainless steel was chosen, which gives rigidity and support to the device. Also, according to Motorola, the device has a coating that makes it withstand splashing water.

Motorola Razr will not stand out for its specifications, and according to the company, the priority was the design and to optimize energy consumption. For this reason, we find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 Octa-core processor at 2.2 GHz. And contrary to what the rumors said, only a single version of the device will arrive with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of non-expandable internal storage.

As for the photographic section, the new Razr has 16-megapixel with an f / 1.7 aperture and autofocus by laser and dual-pixel, in addition to a dual-LED flash. Inside, right at the top of the folding screen, we have the secondary 5-megapixel camera with f / 2.0 aperture.

As estimated, the new Motorola Razr 2019 will not be cheap and is priced at $1,499. It will only be available in a single color and will go on sale next year during January 2020.
