The South Korean electronics tech giant Samsung has revealed today that it will be partnering with the American telecommunications conglomerate Comcast Corporation to deliver 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) solutions that can be used to enhance 5G connectivity for Xfinity Mobile and Comcast Business Mobile customers in Comcast service areas.
With this partnership, Samsung will be supplying 5G RAN solutions for Comcast’s efforts to deliver 5G access to consumer and business customers in the United States using Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) and 600MHz spectrum.
Radios for CBRS and 600MHz, baseband units, and a newly created 5G CBRS Strand Small Cell that can be installed on Comcast’s aerial cable lines are among the Samsung 5G RAN items that will be offered (i.e., strand). By utilizing their current DOCSIS infrastructure and the new small cell product, cable operators like Comcast may provide a 5G cellular connection more easily and affordably without having to construct or buy additional cell sites.
Comcast’s mid-band (CBRS) and low-band (600MHz) spectrum allow the company to supplement its current Xfinity WiFi network and cellular network partnership with additional 5G coverage in some high-traffic areas within its service areas as the demand for dependable Internet access inside and outside of the home and office rapidly rises. Comcast and Samsung are actively extending the scope of their field tests for their new 5G network solution to include Comcast staff members.
The Internet is at the heart of the Xfinity Mobile and Comcast Business Mobile experiences because they were developed for how consumers use mobile devices today. Calls and texts are free, and customers have the option of paying by the gigabyte ($15 for 1GB, $30 for 3GB, or $60 for 10GB), going unlimited ($45 for one line or $30/line for two to four lines) or choosing to pay a flat rate ($45 for one line or $30/line for two to four lines) – some of the most affordable prices available. Customers can change their payment method for any line on their account anytime. Please visit Xfinity Mobile or Comcast Business Mobile for the most up-to-date information on price and availability.
The successful delivery of 5G end-to-end solutions, including chipsets, radios, and core, has been pioneered by Samsung. With its market-leading product portfolio, which ranges from RAN and Core to private network solutions and AI-powered automation tools, Samsung propels the industry’s advancement of 5G networks through constant research and development. Currently, the business offers mobile operators network solutions enabling connectivity for millions of consumers worldwide.
Reacting to the partnership, Tom Nagel, SVP of Wireless Strategy at Comcast, said the deal would help them seamlessly deliver more next-generation applications and services to their consumers.
“Our capital-light approach to providing enhanced 5G connectivity in service areas where we have a high concentration of traffic and cable infrastructure is smart for our business and even better for customers who will benefit from broader coverage and industry-leading speeds and prices,” said Tom Nagel.
“Partnering with Samsung and leveraging their leadership in 5G network innovation will help us seamlessly deliver more next-generation applications and services to our consumer and business mobile customers.”
On the other hand, Mark Louison, Executive Vice President and Head of Networks Business, Samsung Electronics America, stressed that with this partnership, the company would continue to build on its wireless technology leadership in commercial 5G rollouts.
“We are excited to collaborate with Comcast on their journey to deliver the most enhanced 5G experiences available to their customers,” said Mark Louison. “With this partnership, Samsung continues to build on its wireless technology leadership in commercial 5g rollouts. We look forward to helping Comcast advance its goals in delivering best-in-class 5G mobile services for their Xfinity Mobile and Comcast Business customers.”
