It seems most companies want to jump on the foldable bandwagon these days, and Dell is the latest manufacturer to apparently have such a 2-in-1 in the works, at least if a recently uncovered patent is anything to go by. According to a new patent filing displayed recently, Dell is also working on its own foldable, flexible body device that might be powered by Windows 10.

A new patent application from Dell details an innovative Windows 10 device that can carry multiple displays. Unlike the patents for the foldable or dual-screen device, the latest patent shows off a unique concept coupled with multiple portions having an OLED screen that looks more like a laptop.

Just like other multi-screen designs, this device will also be attached with hinges. The diagrams appear to resemble the foldable tablet that would work as a 2-in-1 device when unfolded. However, the embedded diagram can be seen as a laptop-sized device that has been folded, and the external hinge surface is also noticeable.

The hinge has multiple link elements rotationally coupled together, making it more comfortable as a flexible body. The hinges could rotate the combined displays and maintain the link element faces within the adjacent link.

The image also renders three display sections which means one part can be folded under the base, so you get a traditional notebook form factor or even make it into a triangle shape to facilitate video conferencing for multiple users. Dell also describes that the device can detect its own form like the laptop mode or tablet mode and adjust its display accordingly.

It’s worth noting that a patent filing doesn’t necessarily mean that the product will make it to the market, but it’s possible that Dell might soon join the foldable devices trend.
